VIDEO STORY FORMS:
1) Video illustration…complementary video- video that goes ALWAYS goes with a story, relies heavily on print story for context and meaning, have to read story, adds value to what story says, showing something that you can’t do in print, quick hit, 30-50 seconds long, might not have narration, might just be pictures, one clip, good jumping off point for reporters learning to shoot and edit, most simple and straightforward
2) Deadline video package- narration track, mostly interviews from sources, at least three interviews, visual story that has a beginning, middle, end… sometimes voiceover, produced in one day, usually run 1:30-2:00 minutes, can be longer, best that they’re not
3) Documentary project- mini-docs, like Sunday centerpiece package, like a series, story that takes months to do, takes a considerable amount of time, split up into separate videos, each 4-5 minutes long, posted in series form
4) Online talkshow- produced differently than TV shows, very focused on specific issues,

FINAL CUT PRO:
A roll and B roll on different planes
built each section separately, then splice together
no panning in transitions

wide, medium, tight shots
have a loose shot list
build sequences from the scene
in terms of music…can’t add emotion that wasn’t there
white balance test- light in different colors…camera sees light differently…camera settings for different times of day
brush up on basic photography skills
timeline
viewer window- store footage
mark in and out points in viewer
